Vincelli's Garden Centre, two

Here are the rest of the photos I took of Vincelli's Garden Centre, closed two years, gone back to nature, soon to be the site of a condo.

Vincelli's Garden Centre

Like many others, I always enjoyed visiting Vincelli's Garden Centre; it closed about two years ago. Many of the first perennial flowers I planted in my garden came from Vincelli's and they were always strong plants, good stock, and I still have them; in fact, these plants have multiplied and I've divided them so they're in different places in the garden. I guess the condo that is planned to be built here will begin construction one of these days, in the meantime the whole lot has gone wild. It looks great as is! The plastic greenhouse has been removed, the main building has a few broken windows, there is some old junk at the old entrance to the main building. Well, everything changes but it's sad to see the demise of a place that is dear to the hearts of so many people, including my own. If the garden centre at Reno Depot closed I would be inconvenienced but I wouldn't be nostalgic for the place; that's the difference between Vincelli's and where I now go for garden supplies. And I am not impressed with the idea of more condos. We are told the population is growing and we have to house people somewhere, that's progress, but I am not a believer in progress. Progress is overrated; I like things the way they are.

The last day of winter 2022

Winter 2022 will soon be a memory. Here are some photos from one of the few walks I took, on many days it was just too cold to go outside for a walk.

This is the approach to Meadowbrook Golf Course, one of the few undeveloped pieces of land left in this area. Notice that a few years ago the city of Cote St. Luc cut down the trees adjacent to the road. Why did they do this? They claimed that some of these trees were a danger, they might fall on passing cars. Some people hate nature, and perhaps they were really preparing for the day when the golf course will be the site of condos and townhouses. Progress is relentless and unforgiving.

Photos taken on March 10th, 2022.

The Village Shopping Plaza in early October

It is inevitable that the Village Shopping Plaza will be demolished and become the site of spanking new paper thin wall condos! My new motto is "No More Progress, Please". Look at what has already been lost, stores, a restaurant, a place where people could meet and talk; it was, after all, the village shopping plaza, not the city shopping plaza but a community. Did people stop shopping here? Most likely, but whatever happened it was also the fault of whoever owned this complex, they didn't keep up with the times and then land became more valuable than the building and sovoilĂ where we are today. Progress is not just exchanging the old for what is new and more profitable (excuse my naivete!), that is how we define progress in our society and it is a false definition. In the meantime, nature or urban wildlife is returning to this area, the other day I saw a hawk sitting on a railing behind the building.
